On father’s day morning trainer Todd Pletcher has a busy time at Belmont Park with stable stars Quality Road and Super Saver running half-mile breezes. While Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver went four furlongs in 50.66, Quality Road covered the same distance easily in 50.26. This was the first move for Quality Road since the Memorial’s Day Metropolitan Handicap.

“We weren’t looking for much,” Pletcher commented. “It was a maintenance half for both. We’re still a ways away from their next races.” According to the trainer, Quality Road is heading to the Whitney Handicap, a Group I race at Saratoga Race Course on 7th August. On the other hand, Super Saver is targeting Saratoga’s Travers Stakes on 28th August.

“We’ll pick it up a little bit with Super Saver as we go along, but so far he’s doing very well,” trainer Pletcher said. “I’m real happy with his overall condition and weight. The way he’s moving and everything else indicates to me he’s rounding into top form.” The trainer also said he had considered changing the timing of the first work back for Quality Road but he finally decided to keep it.

“If he were to run in the Suburban (gr. II, July 3) or something, I would have worked him last week,” he commented about Quality Road. “But with him not running until August 7, I didn’t really feel the need to work him last week. I probably could have waited another week, but I didn’t want to get into a situation where we were playing catch up at any point.”
