Horse of the Year in 2009 Rachel Alexandra arrived at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs this week where she is expected to make her next start during the horse racing season that will start on 23rd July. The four-year-old filly spent the spring at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, as decided by her trainer.

On 12th June Rachel Alexandra managed to end a two-race losing streak with a win in the Fleur de Lis race. Although co-owner Jess Jackson has not announced yet her next start, the possibilities include two mare and filly races: the Ruffian Handicap that will take place on 1st August and the Personal Ensign to take place on 29th August.

Last season, Rachel Alexandra beaten older males in the Woodward Stakes, ending an 8-0 championship streak. She also won Horse of the Year for 2009 by a 31-vote margin over Zenyatta. On 16th May, 2009, Rachel Alexandra became the first filly in 85 years to win the Preakness Stakes, the second leg of the Triple Crown.

While Rachel Alexandra waits for her comeback in her stall at trainer Steve Asmussen’s barn, undefeated Zenyatta is likely to make her next start at Del Mar in the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes on 7th August, a race the filly won in 2008 and 2009. Summertime brings good news and fabulous races for horse racing fans.
