| Malaysia Government won’t allow telecasts of horse races |
 KUALA LUMPUR: The Government will not allow telecasts of horse races as this can have a negative effect on society, said Deputy Information Minister Datuk Donald Lim.
“We have received a letter from Astro about the possibility of broadcasting horse races from Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Ipoh live but we are not in favour of such move.
“The races have a negative impact on our society and the influence on the younger generation will be bad,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby.
Lim said in Hong Kong, horse races were not telecast even though they were popular. |

| Horse Races Organizers Increase Prize Money to A$5.1 Million |
 The Melbourne Cup, the world's third- richest horse race, will carry prize money of A$5.1 million ($3.9 million) this year, organizers said.
The Victoria Racing Club said in a statement the $500,000 increase on the A$4.6 million prize pool available in 2004 raises the Melbourne Cup's "prestige and value to a level unprecedented in Australia.'' |
